The best Costa Rica fishing seasons are the times of year when you catch the most fish! Luckily, the best fishing seasons for Quepos and Guanacaste, occur at different times of the year.
The biggest runs of billfish hit off Guanacaste in April, and the action lasts through August-September.
Playa Coco and Flamingo are the prime spots in Guanacaste. Boats based here can head south, north or straight out into the deep blue Pacific to whichever area the fish are biting that day.
At Quepos/Manuel Antonio and Jaco Beach the billfish abound year 'round off boats based at the dock here, and the surest season for a boat load of bills is December and January, then through April. Between May and November, you may have to go farther offshore for bills. Tuna, Snapper and Roosterfish are plentiful all year.
January through March is the best time for Golfito fishing. Puerto Jimenez is more picturesque and has better access to Corcovado National Park. But the action is often nonstop from either port, as these waters don't see as many anglers as other parts of the country.
